Small Bowel GIST – Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor
Small bowel GIST: GIST means Gastrointestinal stromal tumor is a cancer found in stomach, small bowel, colon or rectum. It arises from a special type of nerve cells found in gastrointestinal tract. First treatment for GIST is surgery if the tumor is amenable to surgery. Thereafter tablets are started for treatment depending on the stage and site of tumor. Inoperable and advanced tumor needs tablets and systemic therapy based on molecular testing. Symptoms are abdominal pain, mass in abdomen, weakness, nausea, vomiting, cramping pain, not feeling hungry, feeling full after eating very little or even dark colored stools.
